Week 8 Objectives

By the end of Week 8 , students will have:
  • been introduced to the topics of Color, Light, and Texture
  • solved a Jigsaw Puzzle to introduce the topic of Color
  • chatted about Mayart Jigsaw Puzzle
  • discussed about Primary and Secondary, Warm and Cool, Complementary, Natural and Arbitrary,Tinted and Shaded colors
  • read about Color Wheel, Value, Mood, Natural Color, Analogous Colors and Color Effects
  • done Color our World 1
  • done Color our World 2
  • understood the difference between "colour "color"
  • created a page dedicated to Color in their wikispaces
  • learned new words about Color
  • added new words to the glossary in Moodle
  • taken Quiz 3

Week 8 Lesson Plan:


Day 1: COLOR

1. Introduction to the unit (Individual work):

  • Mayart Jigsaw Puzzle was taken from the JigZone, an online Jigsaw Puzzle site where you can create your own puzzles and choose the level of difficulty of any puzzle from a simple 6 piece cut to a challenging 247 piece cut.
  • Here is the one we have chosen for you (87 Piece Crazy). The person who has the record, did it in 2 minutes, eleven seconds. Let's see how fast you can solve it, and who will be the first in our class to finish it...

2. Chatting about Activity 1 (Pair Work)

2.1 When you finish solving the puzzle, look at the image, and open Yahoo Messenger to discuss the following questions with a classmate in a chat:
  • Do you like the combination of colors in it?
  • What kind of object do you think it is? What is it good for?
  • How was color used in this piece of Mayan Art?
  • Does this piece have any texture?
  • How important is color in visual arts? and light?
  • What do color, light and texture have to do with each other?
  • How are color, light and texture important in Architecture?
  • How are color, light and texture important in Urban Planning?

2.2 Save the chat, and upload it to the corresponding folder in Moodle


3. Exploring The Artist's ToolKit: Visual Elements and Principles (Group Work)

  • Before you go to the Artist's Toolkit, discuss what you know about these concepts:
    • Primary and Secondary Colors
    • Warm and Cool Colors
    • Complementary Colors
    • Natural and Arbitrary Colors
    • Tinted and Shaded Colors
    • Analogous Colors

4. Exploring what The Artist's ToolKit Encyclopedia: and other sites have to tell us about:

Take notes while doing the activities above and also while reading the texts below. Create a page titled "Color" in your wikispace where you will upload all of your notes about Color to later study for Quiz 3. Do not forget to add new words to our Glossary in Moodle.
